Heightmap Generator |upd.2|
10 comments Hello, unrealsoftware users!
I present to you the Heightmap Generator for Stranded 2 maps, it uses fractals to generate random terrain.
It is pretty easy to use it, and, thanks to editor tools, integrated to S2, it's even easier to make a map using the heightmap.
With the |upd.2| you actually can just press "Generate" button and it will generate pretty good heightmap with the default parameters. But if you want to play around with options, read the text below:
Update 1:
"Cone" algorithm, it's pretty buggy (the old one, "star", is chosen by default)
The "Lower Height" option (for details see the "Usage of the program" section)
Update 2 (30.11.15):
Default settings: Now you can just press "Generate" without changing any parameters, and it will generate a decent heightmap
Manual positioning of the islands/important positions (see the last screenshot)
Round option, so the terrain gets rounded right after it gets generated, so you don't need to press s2's round button anymore
DePix option, which is used to remove ugly one-pixel islands;
512x512 option;
So... Experiment with the values! If you have some interesting heightmaps generated, post it in the comments, I want to know what it can generate!
P.S. You can also use my little script
NPC arrival and more (7) to make your random survival a bit more fun

Oh I combine them around, sometimes I do not know what's going on thanks

Marcines24: You saved the heightmap, right? Now you need to:
open S2 editor;
make a new map there (it's better to use the same size);
open heightmap editor;
import the heightmap;
generate the colormap and grassmap (by pressing the button which you can see in the 3rd screenshot);
if you want random objects,units,items on the map, there's a button in S2 editor for that;
then place "starting position" info;
save the map.
If there still are some problems, tell me at which step you encountered them. I'll try to help
Hmmm, maybe I need to make a video for it

Yep, I used Delphi.
At first I made this program for myself, because I wanted to see more than 1 island at "Big" map size, so I could actually use a raft to travel.
EDIT:
Here's some more examples of maps:

An interesting and useful idea. The heightmaps don´t look perfect but they are definitly more interesting than the random maps. Thanks for this tool
