I have a suggestion that may or may not help you in creating better and more realistic weapons. This is only my preferred, so it may not suit your style.

Step 1: Find a good-sized picture of a weapon of your choice and copy the image over to a Paint document.

Step 2: Copy and paste (or Draw out) the main outlines of that weapon and maybe some details among with it, but don't just duplicate the whole thing.

Step 3: With those main outlines now, you can now have the original weapon image in front of you as a guide and try to make the weapon as cartooney as possible, but still realistic.

@Guns
That's what we call cheating. Not to mention resizing.
I really think that you shouldn't teach the users how to resize and steal. I'm just saying..

wow wtf its cheating to use a reference photo on the gun you are trying to create ??? were the fuck is the logic in that?

Do some research on the gun you are trying to create weather it be off a real one or a sifi type fictional weapon.

basically search the interwebs for photos & idea

If you are making a realistic gun than open up 2 windows of your paint program.

1 is for your reference pic & the other is a black sheet & on the blank sheet make the outline of the gun 1st. A good realistic shape is recommended for best results.

after you have the basic shape add details to the gun (shell ejection port, receiver iron sights, scopes magazine release, exc) using bright colors like red, blue orange, yellow exc as place holders.

After you have added the desired amount of details you can then move on to final coloring & shading. Work on one part at a time like the stock, magazine, or grips.

Make sure that you make the different parts a little different in color compared to the others even if they are the same color.

(either lighter or darker shades of the same color is what i mean)

Once you have done this you may test the finished product in game (back up your own files if you have other skins)

If any errors are noticeable you may go back & edit to correct the problems.

I was thinking about making a thread with photos of each step to better illustrate my style or way of making skins.
If I have time maybe ill do that

STFU! >_< Resizing is not criminal or cheat! Resize to president!

Its very easy to make CS2d-style image from simply resized image. (Check the standart AK-47 skin! It resize!)

No it's not (The AK47). And yes resizing is, because that's stealing the original image and claiming it as your own (Or at least using without permission). You can use real images for reference and such, but resizing is against the Unreal Software file rules.

And Fapicon you seem to support it no matter what, but have you ever even seen this?

sigh ppl n their dammed copyright BS again >> u ppl are just a load of corporate wankas >>

Creating skins for any game is a form of art which contributes to culture like any other art form.

So thus copyright has no say in the matter. If you dont want ppl to use your creations then dont upload them nor share them with anyone else >>

Besides IF I want to re size an AK-47 to make a realistic AK skin then what the problem? Even if I do the said skin will require heavy editing in the end only retaining the basic shape.

IF anyone simply re sizes a skin with out editing & keeping the crap colors then that skin will look like shit & hardly anyone will use it.

arguing ownership of a reference photo or any other type of intellectual property or even using one while NOT claiming it as your own is at best hopeless, mindless & trivial banter >>

∗I have to admit that @Guns is talking about using the outlines but any other newbie will think of himself as a god when he'll see the 'perfect' weapon skin at his hands, lose his mind, and eventually post it, this resulting in him getting trollollolled.
That's why I said his comment is somewhat destructive.

I'm not talking about reference pictures. Unless you didn't know, half the skins are either 1 minute paint works or "those kinds" of resizes. What you're talking about hardly even applies to skins. I can hardly call any of them works of art. And they aren't contributing to culture. At all.

the dont use them simple solutions ppl rate em low n dont use them that way the good stuff is easy to find

Ahem, I don't use them and I rate them low. All I was doing was going against what Fapicon said, as they aren't even allowed on the site at all.

Maybe you could use PhotoFiltre, It's very much like Paint but much more easier and greater than Paint.
