He he, Stranded II was a simple, frustrating, unfinished nice game when I played it 3+ years ago. Massive mod was always full of bugs and almost unplayable; honestly, I never enjoyed it.

The Survivalist, on the other hand is, BY FAR, in my humble opinion, even with the old graphics, the best game of its genre out there.

JJ, got the msgs. Will do and get back to you. I downloaded the latest version and have an island on day 55 already. I am not sure whether you want me to test even a newer version.

I barely feel lag (not that this was ever a big issue for me). In the past, I have noticed that lag results upon: day change, speed change, tools break, calling up map, end of storms, and when near hostiles. I will try all of these scenarios, especially around bow native -- even tho I usually avoid all of these situations.

And as always, some suggestions:

1.     Require paddles for boats. If on rucksack it makes the vehicle a % faster. And on first level, if no paddles, the canoe will barely move. And man, you should reduce even further the ability to hold breath under water, and make swimming even more more exhausting. The point is, if you go in the water it should be on a vehicle. And the first couple of vehicles are going to kind of suck (speed/storage wise).

2.     I can still exploit cooking with nearby fire. Is not a big deal, kind of cool actually, but so you know.

3.     Fish attractor should also attract dragon flies and other flies.

4.     During storm, there should be a % chance of losing resources in all rucksacks and storages, except the large one.

5.     I have gotten hooked on the events man. You have made them seem so seamless, add more.

6.     I would not mind the mine back. Maybe make it so that we can only build it on a cave. Not a big deal tho.

7.     Fish flakes, sort of like the one we have for skins, but to dry fish (so no need to cook, just air them out). Should be easy to implement, would give cool graphics plus a way around cooking fish. Fishing is my favorite specialty but I would say tho, you might want to reduce % gain a little bit. If you wanna get fancy, you could have a second level building that requires salt to cure fish and meats.

8.     I mentioned the dry-dock concept in an email; half in the water/half on land. For all vehicles. Second level maybe requiring a mix of fire + storage and action, or something...

In a nutshell, dude, your game is awesome! I would not mind playing this version for a while. Really, I think at this point you might wanna take a break and just work on fine tuning the in game msgs slowly (I say this only because I have noticed some minor discrepancies on splash/ingame msgs and actual requirements).

As always, thank you!

1) paddles sound good but the rafts have sail and move by the wind. I will do this for the Dugout yes...it has no sail.

2) I lowered the "range" again on fire. It used to be 80, lowered to 70, and now 60. I will test this some more and see if I can make it extremely hard to exploit.

3) hmm..could make some bugs spawn around it to i guess.

4) I do not like the idea of simply removing items from the map that the player accumulates and stores properly. Would be incredibly annoying to do so much work storing up only to have a storm delete your stuff. I am implementing some things that make it harder to accumulate stuff instead...like you have to feed the dog, which takes "using" the items for a reason, rather then deleting them from something "out of the players control." This will be better too when I get some other ideas i have implemented...like trading meats for some reason with natives...or event animals eating stuff if you do not pursue them to stop them...and some upcoming native attacks that they will target supplies too. Other examples of ideas I have would be to have to "set" traps like the Trap and Bownet...you will "use" it and have to add bait (meats or fish) to "set" the traps after each catch and not always catch something, and have to re-bait the traps after it is unset by animals. (again this makes the player use stuff rather then deleting stuff directly). When I get to the "taming" of natives and they become part of your tribe you will have to feed them too...considering having something like a "feast" where you add foods and stuff to some model (like a Feasting Table)to feed your tribe...the more tribe you have the more food n stuff needed to feed them...this kinda stuff bro...the player needs to use the stuff to accomplish things.

5) sweet! I like em more n more too...I have more events coming to be added yes.

6) yes, if the mine is brought back you would "use" the cave to enter the mine. Or you could still just sleep in the cave like now...to prevent damage from outside elements.

7) hmm. not sure about this...I do however want to do something with curing fish/meats like making "jerky" in a Smoker (new model - smoke house) kinda like a chicken coop type building you would put charcoal and bark in it, to make smoke. I want to add back in the ability to cook a whole fish at a fire somehow too...only seems right that you could cook a fish without filleting it...maybe it fills you much LESS if you do not fillet them...idk yet.

Yes a dock house I agree with...still thinking about how to add it and make it useful and necessary.

thank you for your feedback man...really appreciate it!

this is a wonderful mod and its unbellievable that such a quality game can be played for free without annoying ads or prompts to buy stars or jewle or some such.. ( you can see I have played tablet games )
I really enjoy the first month of the game where searching out the iron rock water rock and cotton bush combination whilst avoiding the nasties and staying alive, its strategy of survival by matching effort for reward is nicely balanced, I am a slow learner and I could have kicked myself for not realising that it was easier to make a bucket than to pound away at a water rock. I have yet to take the game past the winter season, so perhaps I've been missing the late game events.
It would be helpful if you could put some info in the diary about rafts, getting on and of, steering, storage capacity if any, and if you could possibly tone down the getting hurt in a fall, I'm still getting hurt walking down to fish, hmmm just had a thought, perhaps if I put a dock inland a little further I could avoid that, annoying damage.
once again its a great mod and I really appreciate the work that you have done to improve on the Massive Mod and the Stranded 2 game.

Definitely been having fun with this, the past week or so.

I am seeing a bit of a tick of lag about every five seconds, on both medium and large islands. The game is still playable, but it's pretty impossible to hunt the smaller, faster animals unless they get caught behind something. And I have found that if the tic happens when the skybox changes or it starts to rain, I get a spike of lag that often ends with me either getting hurt from a 'fall', or it claiming I almost got hurt from a fall.

And then there was that time I was standing still, watching food cook, and I suddenly was unconscious and bleeding due to a fall.

But ha. I've found an apple tree, at least. One of these days I'll find the others.

I did notice a small bug. If my inventory is full, or about full, and I make the mistake of trying to fill an empty bottle with milk/water/whatever, it...disappears. It doesn't just fall to the ground, but it just up and disappears. I lose the bottle completely.

I also lost my tent making kit after I made the rucksack the first time. I had it in my inventory, and then I made the sack and used it, and then the next time I went to make a tent, I realized that the kit was completely gone and I had to go through the process of making a new one.

Beyond that, though, I'm having a ton of fun. Keep up the good work!

grantbear,
Hey ty for registering and commenting here...glad you are enjoying the mod! I will be adding more details in the Diary on how to operate stuff yes. I will look into the "fall damage" script and see if I can tweak it so it is not so sensitive.

Thank you for your feedback!

Coyote5,
Hey long time no see! welcome back!
Take a stroll to the very "center" of the island and let me know if you find your missing items there in a pile. There is a bug if your rucksack is full and you craft...some items will disappear but spawn at the center of the map. I will fix that issue for next update, found most of them, but I missed a few items.

yes yes the fall damage...I will address that too so it is not so sensitive. I will continue to try and improve any lag issues as we move forward. Good to see you again, and glad your having fun!

I've found a bug in game. After achieving second level in surviving there is still level 1 in these progress lines. I don't know if it is similar with others.
Is it possible to transfer achievement progress to a new version? Which file is in charge of this?

Ok i fixed that survivor skill leveling, currently your skill will be correct in the character menu 1 day late but next update it will set correct upon level up.

No the achievements can't be transferred from a save...they are tracked and set when you save...but when a new game is started they are reset. I have to upload the mod for everyone with the achievements reset. So your saved achievements will not transfer...sorry...it's in the hardcode I can not change that currently.

Hey, quick observations:

1. Cheese omelette not working.

2. I am not sure if this is on purpose, but I can tell you it makes a huge difference, so I went back two weeks and decided to exploit it: after you bake clay you get 10 ceramics skill points regardless whether you bake 1 or 10 bottle.

Hi Aedo,
the cheese omelet seems to work...I just made 2...1 from 3 small eggs and 1 from 1 large egg. Maybe you tried using cooked eggs? or you didn't use your hardened clay pan, but you used the soft clay one? Or if you burned it, you missed the text saying so? Try again?

I will fix the skill points for 1-10 bottles yes, good one!

Did you get to make a compass yet?

Hah, compass works beautifully!!! You r the man, dude.

(If only....) I have not gotten that far yet, but you should make it so that we can buy a fully/permanent compass from the pirate. I am not sure whether you have done it already.

1. I can produce a cheese omelette without trouble. The issue is that when I try to eat it, I do not consume it and it does not convey any benefits. Is not working.

2. Rain catch. You got to fix rain catch. I got 100 bottles of water in 4 hours from 2 buckets.

I would humbly suggest you make it so that buckets/water troughs/water rocks only gain "at most" 1 bottle of water per hour during rain. And I would add caps. Buckets are useful I agree, we should build them, but right now they r on steroids when tied to rain!

i noticed the same thing with the omelette ,can't eat it , also when I burn a burger it usually goes ahead and puts it in my inventory .
I seldom see rain after the first week , but sometimes get the long lag spike like I do right before a rain .
Sometimes get lightning and no rain , this is of course a natural occurrence in some parts of the world so I don't know if that's intentional or glitch .
Haven't had much time to play lately , weather is to nice here

oh my bad...i didn't try eating the omelet lol...thought you meant making them. √

I have made the watering script check the amount of water in the object now, so it will never be more then 5 bottles on hard mode, 6 bottles on normal, and 7 bottles on easy. It always added +1 every hour before, but when the bucket was emptied the model changed to the empty bucket too...so...when the rain is detected the next hour, the bucket would fill back up and change to the full bucket, The full bucket is defaulted a 7 bottles so everytime the bucket filled you had 7 more bottles...WELL I defaulted the bucket to 1 and from there it will add 1 per hour now.(basically i had it backwards, the bucket needed to "start" with 1 bottle, not 7)

n yes... the random weather is intentional.

Instead of wandering around until a "Good" start location was found, I thought I would try the first likely location, after all I have mined iron when pounding away on a water rock so how hard could it be ? Well I know that I bashed and hacked and punched rocks for the whole first 30 days before I got myself some iron. Sulphur, saltpeter, gold coal got em all, but iron, not until the end of spring. It was early Summer before I had enough to make a spade. So whilst its probably a small % chance of gaining that elusive ore there is not guarantee that it will arrive.
This is not a rant, it just means that my clever strategy of not wasting time searching for a "Good" location was instead a waste of time. Chuckle

Actually...

You should begin First Camp ASAP. By "First" I mean just a fire-camp and a basic shelter (or bamboo). This you should do almost right out of the water; you should ONLY spend some time (3 or 4 hours top) looking for a water rock or an eagle's nest to get the stones for the hammer, fire and to crush. YOU SHOULD HAVE THIS BEFORE NIGHT FALL.

Then use the next 2 or 3 days to get yourself to collect some easy wild pickings and sugar, to process bark, find/get a flint (for a knife), ideally a bottle, and to get yourself a map ASAP.

And as soon as you get your map (and "my" strategy is to always rush for it) THEN you look for the true best place in the island to build Second Camp, but not before BECAUSE without a map you will have no clue where the best place to settle is. (THIS STRATEGY IS THE MOST USEFUL TO DECIDE QUICKLY WHETHER YOU WANT TO SPEND TIME PLAYING THE ISLAND OR DO A RESTART TO GET A BETTER ONE).

You should be very conservative with your actions, because every action costs food/water/sleep, especially the first few days... last thing you want is to kill yourself from exhaustion. So, do not be lazy the first few days, but be smart and take it easy.

I am not sure why you are so eager to acquire cotton so early in the game and so close to first camp. I think I first use cotton to fish (1 string) and it usually takes me 2 weeks to start fishing. By then I would have my Second Camp well under way and would have collected tons of cotton (and other shit) just by exploring while planting my survey stakes so I can get a map.

Last tip, imo you should use your iron first for nails (for tools/weapons, a crate and water through ASAP), axe (for lumbering and to use as a weapon) and scythe (to start collecting wheat and potatoes as you explore your island). IMO in that order and ASAP -- but you should build other items to skill up. I am not sure why you would go for a spade first, I rarely use those. I might craft one early simply to skill up but I usually use it only when I start composting, which I will rarely do before mid-summer of the first year.

I disagree on fire and shelter being the first thing to do. I am searching for cotton which I deem imperative and I want that within reasonable walking distance of a water rock that is also within walking distance of iron, if it also has a liana tree then bonus!.
whilst searching I pick up mushrooms, herbs and any insects whilst ready to run or hide. I also gather sugar and dont sleep for two nights. I dont punch bark until the nightime.
I build my fire when I start catching fish and need to cook.
As to my making a spade, first I made nails then iron hammer and then the spade. The game I was playing had me mining coal before I got iron its just the way the odds worked out, but that meant I had really high prospecting skills so it was pretty easy to dig an iron rock nice and close to my forge. The only high skills I have are in fishing and mining.
I'm pretty sure that even though its summer I can now build water trough do some farming and comfortably make it past the first winter. I now have a map so the only qestion is whether to continue with this Desert island. I also have a Normal and a Hilly island on the go. I find the Hills difficult because the darn snakes and scorpions go in and out of view and I miss em and they sting me!
Its a great mod and very entertaining.

I have found a new bug. I built 3 fence pieces, and went to sleep. I got up the next day, went to make more fences, and the 3 pieces I had placed.....vanished. i havent traveled to the middle of the island to see if they were there yet, will do that shortly, but since they are not, "items", I dont expect to find them there.

old fences

JasJack67

That sounds impossible due to my knowing the scripts. There is nothing in the sleeping scripts relating to any fence models. You will not find them in the center of the island, no.

hmm...

yesh, im stumped. I will try building fences an sleeping an see if they disappear...i do not see it as possible...maybe you loaded a save from before you built the fences? So it seems like they vanished?

edit:Tested...fences are not disappearing when sleeping? If anyone else has this issue please post it, but I am sure this is not a bug but something else that occurred, like loading a prior save.

Tested: all fences types, completed and unfinished, 3, 6, 9, hours, within the day and overnight... and they were all still there.

@grantbear (and JJ)

http://www.mediafire.com/download/e6s2b1362wt84lv/TO_CONTINUE.sav

So grantbear, this is the island I am playing atm. You "could" see how I started with my first camp at the lake in the island. You would have to walk/sail there. (1) It is an awesome location btw, but as soon as I got my map I discovered and chose to settle at an even better one: a separate large island. And (2) keep in mind I built the crate and dock at first camp ONLY after a few weeks/my second or third trip between camps.

And yes, if you find sugar and can stay up the first 2 or 3 days exploring "for the best location" without building anything you may choose to do that. It is an advanced move, but a risky one in many ways; most of all because without a map it will be extremely hard for a player to realize the best place to settle (it can be done, but it would require some serious manual mapping).

After playing hundreds of islands, I usually go with a basic survival strategy from the start and build a first camp that I hang out around (1 week tops) until I get my map and I am ready for a run to the place to build Second Camp.

Then, after a couple of weeks at Second Camp, I start taking trips to First Camp and eventually would build a Third Camp before winter.

JJ, I made a bunch of mistakes so I am a bit late for my winter prep, but you can see where I am going with this one.

I would suggest more land animal hostiles: especially the hostile flies, those should be a permanent annoyance. But also more scorpions, snakes and hostile monkeys for next version (or new ones if you got them) AND again, please more events. Eagles and lions are cool and so are piranhas (maybe a bit more sharks). Natives #s are pretty cool I think, but you should make them much more lethal and tougher to kill, but with better rewards, i.e., boots, gloves, masks and weird items (to sell to pirate), etc as I have mentioned before.

BTW, writing that above about the 1 string made me realize maybe we wanna make it 10 strings at least for a fishing line. He he, u know me.

That is a neat map, and I like the Hut layout, I had never considered adjoining huts. Your island is quite advanced.
I play according to the island and what is available, I differ from you inasmuch for me a map is a later game strategy when I decide where I want my final location to be. If I can build a first camp with cotton water rock and iron withinn reasonable distances of each other then I can build up stocks of food and water build up my skill ratings and only then move to a final destination.
I should add by the way that I have yet to move to that final location "smile". I'm still in the process of finding out how differing start strategies work out, and the only island I took to early winter went away so I could play the March upgrades. So I have new islands, but I sure don't have one as nice as yours.
I notice that you have chickens and I tried them out on an earlier island and decided they were too high maintenance I much prefer sheep wandering around giving up milk and wool. Potato soup so good and filling mmm. When I finally figure out those darn sailing rafts I may move my base on my Normal island until then I am busy on my new Hills island.

So a quick update on my previous issue. After logging back into the game, I found all three fence pieces in the place where I had originally placed them. So I am just going to chalk it up to some very weird glitch. If i would have been able to walk into the fences, instead of thru them, I would have been saying, "Ok, graphical glitch". But since that didn't occur, I am still clueless, but....issue resolved, lol.
