@user Mami Tomoe Great idea!
Here are some prominent examples from the past:
user JewishNazi
user ur mom gay
user Iliketolookatgayporn9
user ImSoFuckingRetarded
user StupidHobbit
user BigCockNiggerPenis69
user DC is a nigger
user NiggersTongueMyAnus
user DCSucksNaziCock
user HitlerDidNothingWrong

Granted, not everyone of them is banned but a bunch of them are names just like these.

I'm just saying it's a missed opportunity.
We could also use AI to generate a goofy nickname like default usernames in games.

Regarding GDPR and deletion of data: It's sufficient to handle deletion request manually to comply with GDPR. There doesn't have to be any automatic function to allow users to delete content (or accounts) themselves. As I don't get many requests to delete user data, building in a deletion function is a very low priority for me. Same for these fun deleted user account things.

Furthermore most personal data (contact details) can actually already be removed by users. Only exceptions:
• the account email - which is private by default anyway
• the current and all previous user names - which are nick names in most cases

Also - according to my research, I'm not a lawyer - forum posts are kind of exempt from the GDPR deletion rules as deleting them would destroy context and make entire forum threads unreadable. I would not be legally obliged to delete them if someone asked me to. Accounts however need to be removed / anonymized on request.

(btw, just to clarify this: My actual focus with this new website in regard to GDPR was to protect your data from third parties. The website won't send any data to third party services anymore unless you agree.)

@user DC: What about deleting user data such as nicknames in the case that they contain sensitive information? Without deleting the rest of the account.
Or perhaps redacting them in a way so the context is there but the information is not?

That's certainly possible if necessary. I can also do that manually if needed.

new design is looking quite pretty, but I can't help but think it doesn't use my screen's space very well

1. When in a File or Thread, hovering over the flag in the top bar (next to the avatar) loads a pop-up with the current page instead of displaying 'Switch language.' https://prnt.sc/ru7TTto7Xq6A

2. On mobile, when clicking on the menu options, the issue illustrated in the image occurs. However, this image was created in Paint solely to demonstrate what happens when accessed on a mobile device. Everything is fine on the computer. https://prnt.sc/hO6Pw6FqvOXb

3. I would like to suggest icons in the menu options to make it more intuitive.

This feels so weird after being registered here for relatively so long and will take some time getting used to but overall the new design is very neat and the website doesn't look like it's stuck in the 2000s anymore (and I don't mean that in a negative way, quite the opposite, as that will be the thing I'll miss the most). At least we still have the OG emoticons, user DC please don't replace them!

I was quite surprised by the new design, good to see this community is still alive and well, after being mia for quite some time.

Thanks a lot for all the positive feedback

Regarding wider page option: I'll consider it. Wouldn't be difficult to add it.

@user mrc:
1. Thanks! Fixed!
2. So it's basically selecting the text? Which mobile browser are you using?
3. Nice idea, I'll try that out.

@user medeiros: Don't worry... there are currently no plans to replace the smileys/emotes. Even though they look horrible on high resolution screens / mobile I may try to make vector versions some day but it's unlikely that this will happen any time soon. I definitely won't use standard stock smileys. That would be lame.

I tried it on 3 different browsers, Chrome, Edge and Samsung "Internet" browser. This visual bug just didn't happen on Edge.

Are you planning to support light/dark mode?

The Standard style already looks like dark mode in a way, with Mr.Brightside being closer to light mode (and also a little bit similar to the old layout). I don't know how darker/lighter can you go with the new website design, plus it would probably look uglier.

What about adding a bulb next to the flag icon, so we can toggle between Standard and Mr.Brightside (darker/lighter) quickly.

alt What the fuck DC.

What a beautiful idea! I added a CSS hue-rotate filter to the US icon to make it happen.
